FLORIDA VETERANS FOR COMMON SENSE
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF NOMINATING AND CONFIRMING JUDGES FOR
THE U.S. COURT OF APPEALS FOR VETERANS CLAIMS
MAY 5, 2011
WHEREAS, the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims was established (in 1988) to provide judicial review to veterans appealing claim determinations for service-related disabilities by the Board of Veterans Appeals (of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs); and
WHEREAS, it is reliably reported in the press that the Court is confronted by an overwhelming backlog of pending requests to review VA determinations at a time when an increasing number of filings is anticipated, particularly by veterans returning from deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq; and
WHEREAS, President Barack Obama has expressed his commitment to the well being of veterans as a high priority of his Administration; but
WHEREAS, there are three vacancies on the Court for which the Administration has failed to submit nominees for Senate confirmation, resulting in delays in adjudication due to lack of judicial personnel;
NOW, THEREFORE, FLORIDA VETERANS FOR COMMON SENSE adopts this Resolution urging the White House to promptly nominate, and the Senate to promptly act on such nominations, in the interests of fairness and justice to our veterans, their dependents and survivors.
