Dr. Kate C. Arnold is an OB/GYN. She served as Director of Women’s Health at a large, 18-site federally qualified health center in Oklahoma. Kate and her wife, Caroline (also a practicing OB/GYN), were compelled to uproot their family, leave well-established clinical practices and close friends to move from Oklahoma in June 2023. In our Democracy at Risk Series, Dr. Arnold will share her concerns about long standing attacks on obstetricians but even more so on the growing restrictions on reproductive health, attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, challenges of educating children in an increasingly repressive, unwelcoming Red State, and all compounded by not feeling safe to speak out in a state where guns continue to proliferate.
Please join Floridians for Democracy in person or virtually to hear Dr. Kate Arnold’s passions to protect women’s rights, work towards giving each child in the United States an equal chance, slowing climate change, protecting LGBTQ patients, decreasing maternal mortality, protecting Americans and visitors from gun violence, and acknowledging and lessening the racial bias that is embedded in American society. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from a true humanitarian devoted to protecting and preserving democracy while respecting the rights of American citizens.
Please invite you family and friends to attend the Assault On Our Freedoms – Red State Brain Drain event.

You are invited to attend the FLVCS 2024 May meeting, Monday, May 13, at 7:00 pm at the Unity Church, 3023 Proctor Road in Sarasota. This meeting will feature a timely presentation regarding this year’s upcoming elections for four open seats to the Board of Directors of the Sarasota County Public Hospital Board (the “SMH Board”).
Dan Bailey will speak on “Why the big fuss about the SMH Board elections? And why you should care”.
Our speaker for this timely and important discussion will be Dan Bailey, former General Counsel to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, a sixth generation Floridian with vast experience in Sarasota governance issues, who has held leadership roles on some of the City’s principal non-profit organizations, including The Patterson Foundation, The United Way of Sarasota County, The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation, and many others.
In 2020 a group of three candidates running as “The Health Freedom” slate won 3 of the 4 open seats that year, on a platform radically opposing the response of SMH to the COVID pandemic. This year, a new slate of three candidates is running on essentially the same platform, this time as the “Medical Freedom” slate, and contesting three of the four Board seats now opening. The future course of the governance of the SMH system will depend on the results of this election.
When: Monday, May 13, 2024, 07:00 PM EDT
Where: Unity of Sarasota, 3023 Proctor Rd, Sarasota, FL 34231
