In recognition of veterans who have acquired disabilities in the line of duty and the specific issues they face during recovery and rehabilitation, the ABILITY House program has launched the ABILITY House Veterans with Disabilities Initiative. In cooperation with the Department of Veterans Affairs’ vocational rehabilitation and employment service departments, the Paralyzed Veterans of America and numerous private and state veterans’ services agencies, VDI will engage veterans and service members who have acquired health conditions or disabilities.

Adaptive Adventures Armed Forces Program provides support and mentoring to American servicemen and women who’ve sustained permanent physical injuries. The program works with recently injured military personnel still in the Army Hospitals as well as Veterans post-rehabilitation. Veterans are introduced to a broad range of outdoor sports opportunities and adaptive technology and techniques through Adaptive Adventures all season clinics, camps, and adventure trips.

The mission and purpose of Air Compassion For Veterans is to ensure that no financially-stressed wounded warrior / veteran / active duty military person or their family member(s) is denied access to distant specialized medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, or rehabilitation for lack of a means of long-distance medical air transportation. The Air Force Aid Society Respite Care Program is intended for active duty Air Force families who have a family member with special needs. The goal of the program is to provide a “break” for a few hours a week or month to families who have the responsibility of 24 hour a day care for an ill or disabled family member.

The Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress conducts research, education, consultation and training on preparing for and responding to the psychological effects and health consequences of traumatic events. These events include natural (hurricanes, floods and tsunami) and human made disasters (motor vehicle and plane crashes, war, terrorism and bioterrorism). The Center’s work spans studies of genetic vulnerability to stress, individual and community responses to terrorism, and policy recommendations to help our nation and its military and civilian populations.

Homes for Our Troops is a non-profit, non-partisan, 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2004.
