On November 5 we become the bosses that hire employees to represent us at all levels in our government. Considering that task, I realized I really don’t care much about the beliefs, opinions, fictions or fantasies of possible employees. I care about their knowledge of real problems and whether they might be creative enough to help solve those problems in a way that will benefit me and my family.
Too many of our current employees govern based on their beliefs. They even try to force those beliefs onto all of us. Lately, that has involved limiting our options, which they absurdly say increases our “freedom.” Governing by belief does not involve learning about reality and is therefore a form of laziness. As a scientist and medical practitioner, I’ve spent a lifetime trying to learn about reality, and I won’t hire employees who are too lazy to do likewise.
Please join me in looking for and hiring employees who are willing to do the learning and the work. Prospective employees who understand climate change and are willing to address it, for example, show they have learned about that reality and are committed to a livable future. Hire them.
