Happy New Year - Florida Veterans for Common Sense

FLVCS expects a productive new year. For starters, we have on tap the annual Thomas Paine Birthday Party, a stand down for homeless veterans, and the first annual statewide Women Veterans Conference.

This next year, we’ll continue to educate ourselves and the public on national security issues. For starters, we’ll follow up with the action plan set forth in the FLVCS Environmental Working Group’s Climate Change Report by holding workshops, seminars, and talks.

Of course, we’ll continue to advocate for peace and a stronger nation. While America still wastes human and financial treasure fighting unwinnable wars that have spread, and strengthened, the terrorist threat, we note some progress. More citizens now recognize that we can more likely defeat terrorist extremists by holding to our principles and setting an example for the world instead of rushing headlong into counterproductive war.

James Fallows has started a good discussion that appears in Atlantic magazine titled, The Tragedy of the American Military. Fallow makes the case that we are a chickenhawk nation in which careless spending and strategic folly combine to lure America into endless wars it can’t win.

As a veterans outfit, FLVCS has an important role to play in the natinal debate on how to better fund and utilize our military.

And, of course, we’ll continue to stand tall to make sure our veterans who have braved the fight obtain the health care they deserve. Our government, specifically VA and DoD, did not prepare for the influx of veterans in need of health care resulting from their service. To date, sufficient resources have not been budgeted to provide our veterans the healthcare they deserve. As a first priority, FLVCS must agitate to make sure our veterans are not shortchanged any longer.

Resolve for the new year that you will support FLVCS with your time, energy, and money. With your help, we can make America, and the world, better.

Annual FLVCS Party

Every year Florida Veterans for Common Sense celebrates our American revolutionary heritage by sponsoring the annual Thomas Paine Birthday Party. The party honors the American patriot and veteran, Thomas Paine, the author of Common Sense and The American Crisis Papers that ignited and sustained the American Revolution.

The party will take place this year at Bent Tree Country Club in Sarasota, Florida, 4700 Bent Tree Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34241 on January 17, 2015 at 6:00 PM.

This year’s party will be a fund raiser for the Women’s Veterans Conference sponsored by the Florida Veterans for Common Sense Fund, Inc. When you attend this party you will have an enjoyable time and the satisfaction of helping female veterans who are sometimes overlooked veterans.
