Bio: \n\n \n Kenney is an army veteran one of the first 10 physicians assistants the army created in 1967 for the American war in Vietnam. \nAll 10 original PA’s practiced orthopedics surgery and later Kenney became the first PA to work in neurosurgery. That was in New York City during the 70s.\nMeeting Bruce Springsteen in 1968 in New Jersey working in an Army Hospital near Asbury Park\, Kenney began dance/acting out some of the ‘Boss’s songs which led him to become a mime dancer\, eventually even taking a workshop with Marcel Marcel. \nAnd then after that hospital work depressed him with the financial world of medicine\, he quit his neuro-surgical position with the New York Medical College\, Flower Fifth Avenue and Metropolitan Hospitals in New York City and went into show business. \nKenney became a body linguist/health coach and choreographer and known in New York City as deDisco Mime\, performing at the Limelight Disco\, Roseland Ballroom Copacabana\, and even Studio 54. These have taken place in schools\, universities\, Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs\, Business Conventions even on cruise ships. He taught these classes in 7 countries doing more than 140 presentations especially for elementary through high school students. These lectures are titled “Body Language The Art of Mime.” His adult lectures\, which are somewhat similar\, because he treats you older kids like you’re still younger than ever wanting to learn\, these are titled “The Head Has a Body”. \nHis full international program is known as: “Human Growth Education“. To teach and inspire awareness of our body control as we age. \n\n\nReturn to the FLVCS Calendar

SUMMARY:Celery Fields Refresh
DESCRIPTION:Come join the fun at the Celery Fields Refresh Planting Day. All are welcome. No expertise needed. Just a willingness to pitch in. \nThe Celery Fields microforest has been hit hard with hurricanes\, drought\, and flooding since it was planted in 2020. While some trees are still doing well\, many have not survived. So\, FLVCS took on the task of not only restoring\, but improving our first microforest. We have learned a lot in the subsequent planting of seven microforests and over 10\,000 trees with more in progress.  \nBring a hat\, gloves\, sunscreen\, and water. If you have a rake\, shovel\, or hand tools  they can be helpful too.  \nSee the details for the Celery Fields Refresh Day below. \nReturn to the FLVCS Calendar

SUMMARY:FLVCS August 2024 Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Project 2025 could affect veterans? Then you will want to hear David Pepper\, former chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party\, at the FLVCS August 2024 Meeting. He will speak on Project 2025 and its impact on veterans. \nHow to attend\nJoin us the the Unity of Sarasota Church for this important meeting. Meeting details are below. If you can not attend in person\, then please join us on Zoom. You must register to attend the Zoom webinar. Click on the button below to register now. Don’t delay. \n[button color=”blue” link=”https://floridaveteransforcommonsense.org/zoom” size=”large” target=”_self” block=”false”]Zoom Registration[/button]\nDavid Pepper Bio:\nDavid Pepper is a lawyer\, writer\, political activist\, former elected official\, and adjunct professor\, and served as the Chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party between 2015 and 2021. \nIn that role\, he was engaged in numerous fights and extensive litigation over voter suppression and election laws in the Buckeye State. Stemming from that work\, David appeared in “All In”—the documentary highlighting Stacey Abrams’ nation-wide fight for voting rights. \nIn addition to Laboratories of Autocracy and Saving Democracy\, Pepper has written four novels that bridge real-world politics and fiction—including A Simple Choice (Putnam\, June 2022). His first novel\, The People’s House\, earned praise for having “predicted the Russia scandal.” The Wall Street Journal named Pepper “one of the best political-thriller writers on the scene.” \nBorn and raised in Cincinnati\, David is a fifth-generation Cincinnatian. David earned his B.A. magna cum laude from Yale University\, where he was Phi Beta Kappa\, and later earned his J.D. from Yale Law School. \nDavid finished first out of 26 candidates in his first run for political office\, and served on Cincinnati City Council from 2001-2005. In 2006\, he flipped Hamilton County blue for the first time in 40 years when he ousted the incumbent commissioner; he then served on the Commission from 2007-2010\, including as its president in 2009-2010. David was the Democratic candidate for Ohio Auditor in 2010 and Ohio Attorney General in 2014. He was elected chair of the Ohio Democratic Party in December 2014. \nIn 1999\, David clerked for the Honorable Nathaniel Jones of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. After 2000\, David also worked in the Cincinnati offices of major law firms Squire Sanders and Blank Rome\, focusing his practice on commercial and business litigation\, and appellate litigation. David also teaches election and voting rights law as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. \nBetween his undergraduate and law school years\, David spent three years doing international work in St. Petersburg\, Russia. Based out of the Center for Strategic and International Studies—a Washington D.C. think tank—he served as a research intern for Zbigniew Brzezinski for part of 1993\, followed by several years as the assistant director of a project providing technical assistance to the City of St. Petersburg as it underwent economic reform. In that role\, David interacted with international figures such as Henry Kissinger\, Paul Bremer\, ambassadors\, members of Congress\, business leaders\, and Vladimir Putin\, who was then Vice Mayor of St. Petersburg. \nPlease invite your family and friends to the FLVCS August 2024 meeting. \nFLVCS Postcard Campaign\nCome to the meeting early and pitch in with FLVCS’s Postcard Campaign. FLVCS committed to sending out 2\,000 postcards to young voters encouraging them to exercise their rights as citizens and vote. We only have 150 postcards left. Help us send these postcards before the Primary election on August 20th. Postcarding will start at 6:00 PM. \nReturn to the FLVCS Events Calendar
